Job Summary:

The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and enforcing safety programs across active construction job sites. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to ensure compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements, reduce workplace hazards, and promote a strong safety culture.

 

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Implement and enforce company and project-specific safety policies on construction sites
  • Conduct regular job site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, local, and general contractor safety standards
  • Perform safety audits and inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare reports and corrective action plans
  • Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training for field employees
  • Maintain and update safety manual and documents including incident reports and inspection logs
  • Maintain compliance with systems such as ISN.
  • Support workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs
  • Coordinate with general contractors, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies during site visits or inspections
  • Attend safety meetings
  • Assist with emergency response planning and job site safety planning
  • Promote a proactive, safety-first mindset among all field personnel
  • Maintain equipment and PPE inspections, calibrations, and logs
  • Coordinate with Project Management on safety budgets and invoicing
  • Maintain SOPs
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3 -5 plus years of safety experience in the construction industry.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Familiar with NFPA, EPS, DOSH, OSHA, ANSI regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
  • Experience working on active construction sites.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, supervisors, and management.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, leadership skills to manage potential hazards and emergency situation and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • CSP certification.
  • Fall Protection, Scaffold, or Confined Space training.
  • Ability to walk and stand on active construction sites for extended periods
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
  • May require travel to multiple job sites
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction hazards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
